Overview
序文
自分の表現が立ち上がる地平の構築を目指して1970年の夏、二十四歳の誕生日の翌日に、横浜の埠頭からソ連の貨客船に乗って日本を出発し、シベリア鉄道、飛行機、鉄道、そして再び飛行機と乗り継いで、周囲をぐるりと壁や運河などで隔離された都市、共産圏に浮かぶ陸の孤島、西ベルリンに着いたあの日から、すでに半世紀以上が経ちました。
出発点のことをドイツ語ではAusgangspunkt（アウスガンクスプンクト）と言います。
Ausgangとは出口のことで、Punktとは点という意味です。
そしてこの二つの単語を繋ぐとAusgangspunktという出発点という意味の単語になります。
出口の点がどうして出発点という意味の単語になるのでしょうか。
それは出発点とはゼロからのスタートではなく、長い間トンネルの中をこちらの壁にぶつかりあちらの壁にぶつかりした試行錯誤の末にやっと発見した出口の光だからです。
この光を浴びてトンネルから外に出た点、ここがこれからの自分の作品を制作し展開していく出発点となるのです。
私の14年間の西ベルリン滞在のうちほぼ半分の7年間はこの出発点を探すのに費やしました。
ドイツ人と議論をして話が泥沼にはまると、「お前の芸術の出発点は何処だ？」という質問がなされます。
作家とはそれぞれ自分の出発点をしっかり持って制作している者だということが前提になっているからです。
私は制作で迷ったりした時にはこの出発点を思い出します。
ベルリン時代から最近までの作品をアップしています。

Introduction
In summer 1970, one day after my twenty-fourth birthday, I departed from Yokohama quay on a Soviet Russian cargo-passenger vessel for West Berlin, with a view to constructing the horizon on which my expression would be formed.
In a city by the eastern seashore of Russia, I changed from the ship to the Siberian Railway, then to an airplane, to another railway, and to an airplane once again, arriving in West Berlin, which was isolated by the surrounding walls and canals and as if it were an island floating in the communist nations.
Since that day, more than a half a century has passed.
"Starting point" in German is "Ausgangspunkt."
This German word consists of two words, "Ausgang" and "Punkt," which mean "exit" and "point" respectively.
Why does "exit point" mean "starting point" in German?
Because this "start" is not a start from zero.
The starting point is a light discovered after coming out of a long tunnel, bouncing off of one wall and then another, the end of a process of trial and error.
This point of emergence would be the starting point for the production and development of my artworks.
When I got bogged down in debates with German artists, we asked one another, "Was ist dein Ausgangspunkt?": "What is your starting point?".
This is because above all, an artist is someone who works from a solid starting point.
I spent more than half of my fourteen years in West Berlin discovering this "starting point," and I remember this experience even now.
Here, I display my works from my time in Berlin through to the present.
